Rev. Garvin Warden was born in Barbados the West Indies, spending much of his youth and young adult life there. He attended Wesley Hall Boys’ School for his elementary education and the Barbados Academy and Community High School for his high school education.  While living in Barbados, Rev. Warden worked as a teacher and for commercial establishments before joining the Barbados Civil Service working in the areas of Community Development, Welfare and Cultural Affairs.
 
He also studied in Haifa, Israel on a Mashav Scholarship which was awarded by the United Nations and member countries of one of the European organizations that supported development in Third World countries.  In July 1974, Rev. Warden was awarded an Associates Degree in Rural Community Development from Mount Carmel International Training Center for Community Services.
 
In 1981 Rev. Warden received a BA in Theatre and Drama from the College at Lincoln Center of Fordham University. He was awarded a National Development Scholarship from the Government of Barbados to pursue this course of study.
 
Rev. Garvin migrated to the United States of America in 1984, becoming a naturalized citizen in March, 1995.  Before his ordination in the United Methodist Church, he worked as the Youth Coordinator of the now defunct Boston Urban Alliance and as the Program Coordinator at Rolling Ridge Conference Center in North Andover, MA.
 
Still continuing his education, Rev. Warden earned a Masters of Divinity degree from The School of Theology at Boston University in 1991. During that time frame, he was awarded a Crusade Scholarship from The General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church among other awards. In 1996, Rev. Warden continued his schooling by participating in a certificate program in Urban Ministry at the Urban Theology Institute in Sheffield, England.
 
Rev. Warden is a retired elder and before retirement served  Greenwood Memorial United Methodist Church in the Four Corners neighborhood of Dorchester, MA, Centenary United Methodist Church in Attleboro, MA, Hockanum United Methodist Church in East Hartford, CT. and Chestnut Street United Methodist Church in Portland, Maine. Rev Warden is married to Marcia and they have three sons, nine grand-daughters and two grandson.  Grandson number three is due later this year.
